This book broke my heart a few times. The recipes didn't seem to appeal much to me; it was her story of love and loneliness that tugged at the heart strings. Sometimes you just need a good sad story. It's better when it's true.

The author writes of always wanting to "disappear" to foreign places, since she never felt quite at home. Abandoned at age 3 in a South Korean marketplace, she was adopted by an American couple and grew up in New Orleans. A creative writing program led her to study in FL and Paris. From there she traveled to many places, almost always cooking delicious food for friends. Highlighting the book are wonderful recipes at the ends of chapters. She becomes involved with an older, wealthy French man...
