Didn’t Like It“One should not have to read 350 pages before one comes to care for a character. The only good thing about this book is that it sent me back to Pearl S. Buck to read a great story set in China.” see full review » see other reviews » |
“Essentially this is a love story but it's set in 1928 in Junchow, China and centres around a Russian exile and a Chinese youth. It involves love, lost, secrets, lies, danger and terror and I couldn't put it down!”

The story is based on the true life story of her mother, which is a heartbreaking tale to say the least. The daughter, Lydia, is such a force of nature that you are left wondering of the strength of the mother at the same age. ”

Looking at the book cover, and the book title, you expected something else. This book had meat! Good dialogue and a gripping story line. I liked the ending of the book. The character Lydia faced incredible challenges and fought for who she believed in. Her lover faced his own challenges. In the end they parted, but the author left the door open, for them to meet again. What a good book it would be.”
