“Strange the reasons we pick a book from a shelf. I chose this one because Robert Lohr is my father's name. I had never heard of the "real" chess machine (or Robert Lohr, the author) but soon I was Googling, learning the history and enjoying the fictional account. Mr. Lohr creates multi-dimensional characters and places them in bizarre situations. The interactions of the machine's "inventor," the dwarf and the man who tends the machine's "hardware" are at times belligerent, hilarious and often poignant. Worth reading.”
