Interesting study of a semi-aspiring writer. Anne Matteo is a person with business deadlines. One day she catches inspiration from an Amy Tan novel to write her own novel. The book seems to be constantly talking to her. This causes her to be distracted and accidently make a computer mistake and order more on-line information than she wanted. She decides to take advantage of the mistake and comes across information about her father that she didn’t know about before. The information piques Anne’s interest and opens a slew of memories. Anne is then sent on her own journey to discover what actually happened to her father and to realize things that were in the back of her mind that she never really thought of (such as her father’s mob connections).

Anne’s journey is full of very rich tales of her late teens into her college years. The author does a good job of creating characters that we care about and can maybe associate with people that we know in our own lives. Also, the author uses a lot of rich prose in the first chapter that grabs the reader from the start. The distraction that Anne experiences happens to us all and reminds us of lost opportunities that we shouldn’t let slip away.

Anna Matteo was a writer. She didn't consider her work typing press releases and brochures as serious writing. She was working on a novel, but after seven years, found herself procrastinating. She was ordering articles for a project she was working on. She typed in the name of her father and discovered he had Mob ties. He was murdered in 1976, and noone was ever convicted. The article hinted at a mob hit. Her father had always been her hero; she loved him dearly. She now knew he worked for the Mafia. She still loved him, but she wanted to know the whole story. Who was Paulie Matteo?
This story is loosely based on an actual event in the author's life. She actually purchased articles about her father who was murdered in 1976, and one of the articles mentioned the FBI and surveillence tapes.

Painting the Invisible Man is a fascinating look at life in the Mafia. I could not help but be captivated by Rita Schiano's tale. She is a talented author. I felt a oness with the character of Anna. This heartwarming story will at time bring tears to your eyes and at other times smiles to your lips. There is a hint of mystery along side history in this book. Do not miss Painting The Invisible Man.

I have read two books recently by two of our members and I must say that I am very favorable impressed by both. "Painting The Invisible Man" was a memoir written by a real writer. Rita Schiano painted me at the window looking into her fascinating life, into a lifestyle that previously was only a filmy image. Everything came into sharp focus. It kept me spellbound.

The other book was "Still Alice." I may never get over it.

I don't have much time to read novels, but this one was worth every minute of it. Highly recommend!

Okay. A little shameless self-promotion here, but I am extremely proud of my latest book. Learn more about it at the publisher's web site www.reededwards.com
