“Interesting study of a semi-aspiring writer. Anne Matteo is a person with business deadlines. One day she catches inspiration from an Amy Tan novel to write her own novel. The book seems to be constantly talking to her. This causes her to be distracted and accidently make a computer mistake and order more on-line information than she wanted. She decides to take advantage of the mistake and comes across information about her father that she didn’t know about before. The information piques Anne’s interest and opens a slew of memories. Anne is then sent on her own journey to discover what actually happened to her father and to realize things that were in the back of her mind that she never really thought of (such as her father’s mob connections).
Anne’s journey is full of very rich tales of her late teens into her college years. The author does a good job of creating characters that we care about and can maybe associate with people that we know in our own lives. Also, the author uses a lot of rich prose in the first chapter that grabs the reader from the start. The distraction that Anne experiences happens to us all and reminds us of lost opportunities that we shouldn’t let slip away.
