“I enjoyed this book. It is different from other supernatural, psychological thrillers. Hines definitely knows how to add a different twist to a plot. I liked the main character, Candice (Canada) MacHugh and her outlook on life. There was more than enough pace to keep you going and wondering where Hines was going with the plot. At first I was convinced that Canada was talking to her father, but knowing spiritually this was not possible, and the nature of demonology, it had to be a demon impersonating her father for deceptive purposes. I was pleased that Hines revealed this to be so.
I agree with what others have written, that Hines is a writer to watch out for. I am looking forward to his next novel being released later this year.

Moving along her route, minding her own business, Canada hears her father’s voice out of the shadows . The only problem. Her dad has been dead for eleven years. Not sure whether she’s losing her mind or really hearing her father’s voice, Canada reflects on her life after her father’s death. Is she really where she wants to be? What if the voice is her father? When she starts believing the voice really is her father, Canada trades her dull life for new adventures.
Canada soon finds herself on new missions that often lead her down scary and confusing paths. The people she encounter are intense and a little on the loony side as well. After one mission in particular, Canada starts to question her sanity. Is the voice really her father? If not, who’s guiding Canada. Soon Canada will find herself enlisting others to fight an evil force that has invaded life and her Montana home.
T.L .Hines debut novel, Waking Lazarus, was one of my favorite books from 2006. Both of his novels center around death, but Hines approached each plot with a totally different angle. I really liked the heroine Canada MacHugh. You don’t find many protagonist like her in Christian fiction. It was refreshing to see a woman in a leadership role. Canada could be vulnerable, longing to hear her father’s voice and on the other hand she was willing to fight in a "man’s world" to save others.
The spiritual elements of this novel centers on the presence of evil and how it invades our lives. The story is tight and fast paced. I am still not sure whether I like this book better than the first book. They both are really good reads. Hines is definitely an author to continue to watch for future thrillers that take Christian fiction to another level.

“Canada MacHugh's life is about to change in ways she never imagined. As far as Canada is concerned though, a change would be nice. She has lived her whole life in the mining community of Butte, Montana, and once upon a time she even worked as a miner. These days she is biding her time as a garbage collector, all the while wondering if life has more in store for her.
One day on the job she begins hearing the voice of her father, who has happened to be dead for several years. As she continues to hear his voice she finally convinces herself she isn't crazy and somehow she is communicating with the dead. Her father introduces her to a secret world she never knew existed, a covert network of shadows and operatives who work together to save the world from impending disasters. Canada soon learns that her help is needed and she now has the chance to find the purpose she has long been searching for. As she begins her new life, she soon discovers that things aren't always what they seem. Canada must now find a way to battle the great darkness that threatens her life and the town she loves.
T.L. Hines stormed onto the scene last year with his highly acclaimed debut novel, Waking Lazarus. In this latest thriller he is continuing to establish himself as one of this market's greatest talents. The Dead Whisper On is a strange and delightful supernatural tale that twists and turns its way to an unexpected and satisfying conclusion. At no time does Hines hint at where the story is going, and it makes the ride that much more enjoyable. Canada MacHugh is a delightful character and her journey inspires us all to fight the darkness that threatens to destroy us all. This is fresh and unique storytelling that fans of supernatural thrillers will love. (From Christian Review of Books) ”
“Creepy book! It took me several chapters to figure out what was going on. It was set in Butte, Montana which is an area I'm somewhat familiar with, so that made it interesting... but the spiritual side of the story wasn't as strong as I would have liked. Still, if you enjoy Christian thrillers, you might like it! ”

Hines is the story of Canada McHugh as she searches for who she really is and falls prey to dark forces. Canada, a garbage collector in Butte Montana, hears the voice of her late father in shadows. At first she thinks that she's losing her mind, but because she's lost everything of value to her, she starts listening. Her father encourages her to join a group of people fighting evil in the world. She jumps into a strange world of black vehicles and airplanes where she swoops in after accidents or disasters and provides information to the press to help inform the world of the dangers of meth labs and serial killers. But Canada is being stalked by an unstoppable being named Keros who hunts her as she flees across the country. Canada is that rare character who is fully developed with natural quirks and complicated history. Not only is she sympathetic, but she grows as a person throughout the story. She breaks out of the shell her father's death forced her into and finds abilities that she didn't know she had. Hines is a Christian writer without ever proselytizing or creating unbelievable coincidences. The twists and turns in the story make it impossible to turn down, and it has an excellent message that I can't share without giving it all away. Waking Lazarus, Hines' first novel, was terrific, and this is even better. This is a writer to watch!”
