First in the series featuring Olivia Paras, White House chef. Mildly entertaining, though the shifts between the subplots (foiling terrorism and dealing with a cooking channel diva) are sometimes abrupt.

This was a cute fun mystery. I learned way more about the White House inner workings than I thougth I would. Very interesting. I'd hate to be incharge of feeding all those people at a state dinner.

I enjoyed the setting, and I got a little glimpse on the life of someone that works for a very important person. The stresses of being a chef, the daily work, the set up ,the menus, etc. The characters were very good. It was fast paced and the dialogue was awesome. You really need to have great dialogue in a mystery, they're mostly visual, but you need that extra interaction between characters. Just my opinion... And we have a bonus: Recipes! I'll have to try some.

The story of a White House Assistant Chef who finds herself in the right place at the wrong time and ends up in a rollicking adventure as she is the only eyewitness who can identify a would be assassin. Fun summer read. A well written culinary mystery. I look forward to trying out the recipes and to the future editions in the series.

This is one of the better first-in-a-series mysteries I've read. I'd probably give this 3.5 stars if available, but I don't mind rounding up in this case. I enjoyed this initial cast of characters, and fresh off the recent Presidential election, the book seemed timely. I also enjoyed the underlying cooking theme, and the recipes in the back of the book look good.

Forget it. It was too light. In fact, it nearly was a "cozie" and I must say not really worth my time. I thought I would pass it on, but decided to put it on the "free" table. Not bad writing, just a rather dumb story.

SUMMARY: In this First in the White House chef mysteries, after witnessing a murder, assistant
White House chef Olivia Paras is the only person alive who can recognize the killer, an international mercenary thought by the Secret Service to be planning an assassination.
    COMMENTS: Predictable, but fun
