One of my favourite modern novels and an author of real distinction. Pike weaves in drama, romance, a hint of the supernatural and all this done in an economic yet fulfilling style. The characters leap to life and I remember them still. I couldn't put it down. Another of thsoe stories that lives in the mind after it's put back on the shelf.

Read this book. Loved it! The author's next book is coming in August and I'll be first in line to buy "Waiting For The Rain".
