Eighth Grade Bites ( The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod) by Heather Brewer
The name of the book is Eighth Grade Bites ( The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod) by Heather Brewer. This is more of a life story (diary) type of book rather than horror or humour because it is telling the story of a young vampire in his perspective. I also found out that this book is not funny at all and it is not one single bit scary. This is because the author doesn't explain very much on one part and just moves onto the next very quickly.
This story is basically about a teenage vampire named Vladimir Tod and he is a hybrid breed between a human and a vampire. Vladimir wants to have a normal life just like a human but he has to be special and no one knows about it except for a few people. For example, he has to have blood so his aunt, Nelly, brings him blood bags that are stolen from the hospital. By the way, his parents were also dead and killed in a fire so he has had to live with Nelly. The rest of the story is about Vladimir and him trying to fit in with the rest of his friends. The exciting part in this story is when Vladimir finds out about his vampire life and how he is being hunted by others of his kind.
I think that this book has a very interesting theme because it has a rise of climax and suspense and it falls abruptly when the story line calms down. The thing that made me like the book the most was at the end because there was the most action whereas in the beginning there was only a life of a young vampire and his perspective on the world. I think this is because the author tries to raise lots of questions so the readers want to keep on reading but when all the answers come flowing the book is better because it makes a lot more sense. I think that this book is set in a high school somewhere in America because when they mention the class they say “grade”. I both dislike and like the author’s writing style because when the climax starts rising it suddenly drops and it takes forever to rise again but I liked how the author made me curious and eager to find out about the young vampire’s life.
This book is fine except for a few things because there is a lack in action and comedy but think that this book doesn’t fit into the category “horror” and “humour” because I didn’t think it was funny at all or even a slightest bit scared.
I think the author mentions “grade” because I did some research and found out that the author is American so this story is most likely based an American high school. I didn’t really like this book because of the story and the lack of climax.
