Sophia's father, thinking to win and improve their lives, gambled away the home he and Sophia loved. She decided that when the new owner visited, he'd not want the mansion if it was in rundown condition and they could keep it. So she and her helpers did all they could to make it unappealing and dangerous. When Dougal MacLean finally arrived to check it out, he became aware of what she was up to - and absolutely astounded by Sophia's beauty, intelligence and fiestiness. Putting up with the inconveniences of the condition of the home was nothing compared to resisting Sophia and his wanting her. Her plans to win back the deed to their house met with several snags, but when the game finally occurred, Sophia wasn't sure if she'd won or lost - nor was Dougal.
The author did a great job with the dialog; I laughed out loud often. Love a book like this.”
