Yes | No“Good as Lily by Derek Kirk Kim and Jesse Hamm is one of the latest graphic novels from Minx. It tells the story of Grace Kwon, who meets herself on her 18th birthday. After being hit over the head with a pinata, Grace encounters her six-year-old self, her 29-year-old self, and her 70-year-old self. With these encounters, Grace learns more about who she wants to be and about who she is to everyone around her.
The story is very different and entertaining. I love the other versions of Grace. They are just hilarious! The drawings really move the story along. The facial expressions sometimes say more than the words. The story really shows how teens don't know what they have til it's gone, how everyone does that. The alter Graces show Grace that she has a lot of be thankful for in her life. It would be great to have that kind of experience. This book, even though it's a short read, is definitely a MUST read!

“Another cute offering from the unfortunately named (Minx?) line. I didn't like it as much as I liked Plain Janes, but it was a nice piece of YA chicklit. I'd recommend it to girls who like shojo, or who are interested in light fluffy slightly paranormal coming-of-age stories.”

While the plot is a bit cliche, I did start thinking that it would be nice to put some things about my past self to rest and get a little glimpse of what could be (with some good advice, of course). You get a bit of the cultural identity issues (she's Korean American), a bit of the high school romantic drama, some high school theater and a cranky old grandma. Oh, and a foodfight. The pig pinanta spiced things up too. If you like other Minx graphic novels, then I'd bet you'll like this one too.”
