Holy shit. Outstanding. Books like this make me thankful that people still write, and that I can read. Must-read for anybody working near tech.

Michael Lopps' capacity to deconstruct and analyze every aspects of both software engineering management and nerd internal mechanics is outstanding.

This book is not only insightful and amusing, but is a looking glass where all the intricacies of humans' management get revealed.

    A. Must. Read.

A great add to any geek library. If you are a manager or about to become one, Michael sheds some helpful light on the insights of getting around with geeks and nerds and what makes them 'tick'. 4 stars for the content plus a bonus star for the great entertainment factor :-) Also, if you are stuck with a manager you don't understand, grab a copy - it may has the answer(s) you are looking for. If you are the relevant other / spouse of a geek and don't know what to think about him/her sometimes, you should get a copy too, and read the chapter about 'the cave' and 'the zone'. The author does a great job of marrying the concept of software development with the impact of humans on the process. Some excellent examples coupled with real world experience of managing software engineering depts or teams, and this is a must read for anyone brave enough to make software managment a career. Michael Lopp's encounters from the human perspective is something any experienced software manager can relate to in their roles currently or from the past. A good read.

After seeing Michael Lopp speak at the 2007 Webmaster Jam Session ... and after realizing that I had been a fan of his work for years - without knowing who he was - I picked up this book. I have only just begun reading it, but I'm hooked.
