by J.D. Robb

The new novel in the #1 New York Times-bestselling series.

Technology may be different in 2060 New York, yet the city is still a place of many cultures and great divides. A Hitchcockian feel not everyone will like.

When Eve is called to a homicide on Park Avenue, she finds herself in the bedroom of Thomas Anders, sports fanatic and the head of Anders Worldwide. I also cottoned to the STRANGERS ON A TRAIN twist--not to spoil this for readers--again, maybe because I am a Hitchcock fan as well. But I was actually glad that the book focused on Eve and Rourke now--and not past--staying out of the nightmares/past regrets and relationships that the series had fallen into so heavily. Robb had developed a cast of characters that is so huge that we get only glimpses of them now, which is too bad. Characters like Louise, Mira, Feeney, once so central, have become sideicks, and really interesting new characters--like the coroner, Trina, and the bouncer (can't remember names!) have been sidelined. I feel like Eve: her life is full of people who she doesn't have time for!

I've been catching up on the last couple of years' "Death series..." I agree that this is one of the weakest entries into that series. It was far too transparent as to whom the murderer was, from the very beginning. I was never on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. Ho hum...
