Sex, Murder and a Double Latte

Sex, Murder And A Double Latte (Red Dress Ink)

by Kyra Davis

When a mystery writer cries bloody murder, everyone blames her overactive imagination . . .
Thriller scribe Sophie Katz is as hard-boiled as a woman who drinks Grande Caramel Brownie Frappuccinos can be -- maybe it's from a lifetime of fielding dumb comments about her half-black, half-Jewish ethnicity. ("My sister married a Polynesian! I just love your culture!") So Sophie knows it's not... (read more)

A very cute and fun book. It was a great mix of a cozy mystery and chick-lit. I was stumped as to who the murderer was and why they were killing people. I defintely want to read the rest of the books in the series.

Kyra Davis is hilarious, she has to be my new favorite girl author! This was such an exciting read, I literally sat down and read this cover to cover by the pool. The characters are great, her girlfriends sound like some of my own! The plot twists and turns, and is so much fun to explore with the sexy P.I., and wilk and crazy hairdresser that do everything they can to help Sophie. I can hardly wait to read the next book!

Sex, Murder and a Double Latte
    by Kyra Davis
With a wicked sense of humor, Kyra Davis sends her reader on an adventure with a caffeine addict who is unlike anyone you will ever meet. Sophie Katz is a writer of murder, who has just had the opportunity to have one of her novels turned into a movie. However, before things can get underway, the filmmaker, who was to adapt her novel, turns up dead. It is thought to be a suicide, however Sophie has other ideas. There appears to be a connection between this murder and two others - they seemly follow a script - and things start to happen to Sophie that mimic her book - Sex, Drugs and Murder. As Sophie rushes to solve the murders and remain alive, no one will take her seriously and time is running out.
Sex, Murder and a Double Latte, while a murder mystery, is one heavy on humor and sarcasm. It will leave the reader laughing and shaking their head, as each page is turned. To me, Sophie is a bit reminiscent of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum - only much more on the edgy side.
Sophie's best friends Dena, Mary Anne and her hairdresser/close friend Marcus are excellent secondary characters, that add perfectly to the story. Let's not forget Anatoly who is a mysterious stranger Sophie meets in - non other than - Starbucks. He makes fun of her coffee and gives Sophie much fuel in which to toss snide remarks his way. It is not long before there is sizzling tension between the two and a possible romance in the very near future - unless of course it turns out that Anatoly ends up being the one after Sophie's life.
This is a fast paced story and an enjoyable one. I look forward to reading additional novels by Kyra Davis. This is definitely one for a relaxing read and tons of laughter!

This was cute, listened to it on audiobook for my commute. Predictable, but entertaining.

I discovered this book while peeking around other Shelfari members' shelves and stuck it on my wish list and I'm so thrilled by the discovery that I can't wait to read more Kyra Davis' stuff. This book was wonderful and better than a lot the chick lit that's out there. You can't help but love the quirky, spicy, lovable characters. It is smart, funny, kooky, laughable, zany, and more. Quite fresh and page turning, too.

I am not sure what took me so long to pick up this gem of a book! I have had it on my wish list practically since it came out and I had heard wonderful things about it but just never got around to sitting down and reading it. Well, who knew that I was missing out on such a unique, clever and witty series?

Sophie Katz is not your typical chick lit character. For one she is half Jewish and half black (it is great to finally see some ethnicity in chick-lit), secondly she does not work in the fashion or magazine industry, she is a bestselling mystery author, who in `SEX, MURDER & A DOUBLE LATTE' finds herself wrapped up in a mystery of her very own. After the deaths of a couple of A list celebrities Sophie begins to get a few mysterious phone calls and an odd note that reads "you reap what you sow". This is not quite enough to freak Sophie out, however, when the strange incidents start piling up she notices that they are coming from one of her very own novels. Sophie knows that it is not just her mind playing tricks on her but the police will have none of it, in fact she quickly becomes a suspect in her very own stalking as well as some other neighborhood crimes. Now it is up to Sophie and her delightful crew of friends to solve this mystery before the final chapter!

Kyra Davis brings a fresh voice to chick-lit and I cannot wait to hear more from her!

This Girls Night Out book discussion group selection was a great balance between romance, humor, and mystery!

This was a fun read. The ending went on for a little to long, but I liked it enough to read the next book in the series.

A wacky mystery novel discovered on audible.com as highly rated, unabridge and not available to my blind mother through library of congress services. The description intrigued so we downloaded it. A rising mystery author in San Francisco finds herself caught up in a series of murders that to outsiders appears unrelated. But in the course of seek out further connections, Sohpie Katz convinces herself that she is next in line. It is a fun and quirky mystery novel with a sprinkling of romance. While it isn't unusual or high art I will be checking out other titles by Kyra Davis.
