“I started this particular book but DID NOT read it, just didnt care for the first few pages”
“Sorry, but this book is so improbable that I can't recommend it. I generally like Sue Miller, but I think she lost it with this one. Given that Tom is insatiable, Delia is unable to live with him and unable to divorce him and get on with her life. She lives, instead, in some kind of limbo land, always available if he needs or wants her for anything. Then there's the story of Carolee. Again, I can't buy that your best friend would come for a visit and gladly be seduced by your dad. And finally, there's Meri. The final setup is just silly as far as I'm concerned. Meri lies to herself all the way through the book and most certainly at the end.”
“This is a tightly constructed novel of two couples, one newly married, one married for years and their lives, who share an adjoined house. Issues of fidelity, honesty, the nature of love, the impact of aging and pregnancy are threaded through this novel. It's a quick, compelling and intelligent read.”
