It was great! I loved it, even though most of the books we read for school aren't that interesting

Classic YA novel. Don't read the rest of the series - very disappointing.

This is the Sword In The Stone version (obviously!) of how Arthur Pendragon got to be the king of England, with the considerable influence of his teacher, Merlin.

This is the story of the boy who eventually becomes King Arthur. In the beginning he doesn't know he will be king. The boy's teacher is a warlock named Merlin who teaches Arthur the skills he needs to eventually extract the sword from the stone, a task which many men have attempted and failed.

This book starts with Arthur, who everyone calls the Wart, and his foster brother Kay losing their hawk in the forest. Wart goes after it and finds Merlyn, an old wizard who comes back to Sir Ector's castle where Wart lives. Merlyn becomes Wart's tutor. To teach him Merlyn changes Wart into things and brings him on adventures.

Merlyn changes Wart into a fish, a merlin, a badger, an owl and many other things, all in order to teach him. Merlyn also takes Wart on adventures, like going to see a giant. Wart and Kay end up on several of their own adventures, such as being captured by the witch, Madame Mim, and going in the forest to see Robin Hood. One day they heard that the king of England, Uther Pendragon,d ied without an heir.

A sword stuck in a stone appeared in a churchyard, with writing saying that whoever pulled the sword out of the stone would be King of England. Arthur and Kay go to the tournament that was being held for people to try and take the sword out of the stone. Arthur is Kay's squire, so when Kay forgets his sword, Arthur has to go get it. The place they were staying at was closed, so when Arthur sees the sword in the stone, he pulls it out. Then Merlyn comes and tells him that he is really Uthur Pendragon's son and heir and that he is King of England.

I really liked this book. It was funny and full of magic. When I was little I really liked the Disney movie, but I like the book even better. I would recommend this book to everyone, especially those who like books about Old England and Camalot.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The Disney-fied movie version does not do the book justice.
