    Rescue

"Promises Made, Promises Kept" opens with Mia Lawson being attacked in the privacy of her home. Once she believes that the danger is over, her attacker relays a message insuring Mia that this indeed was far from over.

Instead of the wandering to present day events, Tamara Angela Grant, debut author, steps back in time and familiarizes readers with little Mia, aka Mimi, and her young, volatile life. Mimi has a great family. Her parents have been together since high school and they are both college educated and about to embark on rewarding careers as attorneys. Lately, Patrice, her mom, has been tripping. She's been starting fights with Cliff, her dad, and throwing wild accusations around. What little Mimi doesn't realize is that her mom is bipolar. Instead of sticking to the regimen the doctors have her on, she decides she's well and abstains from legal medications. Used to all of the bickering and late night departures, Mimi life takes on an abrupt change. In need of some serious affection, Mimi finds herself settling for what she can find in the streets. Gone is the family structure she used to have. While she still has her mom, aunt and favorite cousin, Mimi is still struggling. Is 10 years too late to come back after promising someone you'd be back?

I have to admit that I wasn't so certain that "Promises Made, Promises Kept" would be a book that I was dying to talk to others about. Well let me tell you, while the cover leaves a lot to the imagination, the synopsis kind of has you thinking it's something totally different coupled with the fact that it's only 158 pages, I can proudly confirm that "Promise Made, Promises Kept" is a definite winner! There are minor editing issues, and some facts don't quite add up, but I was pleased to find a good story, characters and a book that harped on families sticking together through it all. Tamara, I'm looking forward to future releases.

I AM PROUD TO SAY that the author of this book is my room mate from college. This book is a great read for young people, though it has cursing in it, it really gets to the niity gritty of a life as a teen in the late 80's and even today. If you have a teen going down a crazy path let her read this book. she will walk away from it with so much knowlege about what life can throw you.
Thank you Tamara, whats up with the next one?????

Promises Made, Promises Kept is such a great read. This book deals with a lot of real life family issues such as drug/alcohol addiction, single parent/extended families, abandonment, mental illness, and failed relationships all through the eyes of a teenage girl. From dealing with her mother's struggle with bipolar disorder to her father abandoning her at a young age, Mimi searches for ways to deal with the issues of her family while maintaining her own sanity. This book illustrates the importance of being family and being there for one another through thick and thin. I loved it! I guarantee that there is at least one issue in this book that you might be struggling with in your own family and reading this novel may help you in dealing with that problem.
