You do not have to learn one lesson from this book to enjoy it, even the the entire book is a lesson it's self. There are no words to describe how much I love this book. It was so captivating through and through. From the cover, it looks like a children's book. Also, the book does start off a little slow. As you continue, it really picks up. I must admit, I put it down for a while at first. Something kept telling me to read it. I finally picked it back up and had a hard time putting it back down.

This book takes a good look at the trials of a strong Black woman. Madison McGuire has a slamming job, a great pad, a loving family and her choice of men. While in college, she meets and falls in love with Chris, the man she planned to spend the rest of her life with. Only he decides to ruin everything by being "honest" before the wedding by telling her that he cheated on her not once, not twice, but three times. So of course she bans him and every other man she meets from her heart. It's amazing how many women can run their lives so well, but when it comes to men, the choices made are pitiful. Madison falls into that mode over and over. She has a baby sister with Tourette's disease, an overly protective mother, an absent father, and a boss that won't keep his hands off her. BUT, she handles it all so well. So when her only love, Chris, comes back to Los Angeles to claim her, she resists at first but then gives in to the love that has never left her heart. It's then and only then that she discovers she has HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. She loses it for a while, but through the love and support of her family, including her long lost father, and Chris, who never left her side, she is able to pull the "old" Madison back together.

This is a wonderful book! It's true to life and it touches your heart. I love a book that can make me laugh and cry along with it's characters. Hurray for Sheneska Jackson!!!!

I am currently seventeen years old and I read the book when I was a freshmen or sophomore and I just want to say that I absolutely LOVED it! I have read it like 3 times and I did a paper for school on it. The book is so amazing and I understand that it is geared towards adults but these days teenagers can really relate so if you have teenagers dont be afraid to let them read risque books because it is better to read than to get that unwanted hands on experience.

I really miss this young lady's books because for a while, she was writing some very interesting novels there.
