I was glued to each of the 14 stories included in this collection. My favorite was “A Poor Guatemalan Dreams of a Downtown in Peru." I loved the complicated characters in his simple stories. Can't wait to read his other two works.

Not sure that I liked this book. Some of the stories were okay. However, some of them were too long and hard to follwow.

I actually only made it through the first 4 or five of these stories. What was the point of them? It felt like the plot just got going and then the author just dropped it. A waste of time.

A collection of short stories about African Americans in Washington DC. Each story is distinctly different and I wish there was a whole book for each story. His characters are memorable and engaging. I also appreciate that there are no tidy endings.

Amazing details, beautiful construction. Words just seduce you into the world inhabited by characters in the stories. A new world opens up as you read the stories.
