  • Morley: A Haken scullion in the kitchen's of Master Drummon who is also best friends with a fellow Haken named Fitch. He is the muscle to Fitch's brain.
  • Bertrand Chanboor: Minister of Culture in Anderith. He is married to Hildemara Chanboor.
  • Hildemara Chanboor: Anderith woman married to Bertrand Chanboor
  • Cara: A Mord-Sith protector of Lord Rahl and the Mother Confessor. She always wears Mord-Sith red leather in times of possible danger and has blond hair that she always wears in a braid down her back.
  • Beata: A Haken girl in service to the Butcher Inger, Fitch falls in love with her and risks his life in attempt to save her.
  • Stein: A representative of Emperor Jagang to Anderith. He wears a cape of human scalps to show defeat over those who possessed magic that he conquered.
  • Emperor Jagang: Emperor of the Imperial Order, and Dream Walker
  • Claudine Winthrop: Anderith woman married to Edwin Winthrop
  • Edwin Winthrop: Anderith merchant married to Claudine Winthrop
  • Franca Gowenlock: A sorceress in Anderith

  • Joseph Ander: A war wizard who long ago managed to lock away the chimes. He is known to be very proud and the founder of Anderith, which was one known as Toscla before Joseph Ander's rule.
  • Dominie Dirtch: A magical weapon protecting the city of Anderith.
  • Sister Alessandra: Sister of the dark
  • Dalton Campbell: The ambitious Minister of Culture's aide. Married to Teresa Campbell.
  • Linscott: Director in the land of Anderith. He is the head of the masonary guild. Very rich because of that. The Minister of Culture makes him allow anyone, even those unskilled, to participate in being a mason.
  • Master Drummond: Kitchen Master.
  • Anders: A collection of people who believe themselves to be of holy decent and unable to do any wrong. They make themselves the betters of the land of Anderith and constantly look down at the hakens whom they believe to be evil by nature.
  • Rowley: The head messenger of Dalton Campbell.
  • Chandalen: A member of the Mud People and friend of Richard and Kahlan's. He is the protector and head of the strongest hunting group from the Mud people.
  • Juni: Mud People Warrior, Young
  • Nissel: The healer at the Mud People's village
  • Haken: people of Anderith who are believed to have evil by nature and the only way of overcoming their evil is to surve the Anders until they say they can be freed of their ancestors crimes. Due to the education system in Anderith, they ignorantly believe there is evil in them and they can never be free of the need to have Anders lead them.
  • Mother Confessor: Wife of Richard Rahl, leader of the Council of The Mid-lands.
  • Master Spink: Add a description of this character.
  • Emmeline: An Anders soldier assigned to a Dominie Durtch under Sgt. Beata.
  • Meiffert: Comander in Lord Rahl's army.
  • Lady Chanboor: The wife of the Minister of Culture.

  • Reibisch: General and comander of Lord Rahl's army.
  • Nadine: A woman from westland who was sent to marry Lord Rahl in the previous book of this serious. She isn't actually in this volume but she is mentioned.
  • Verna: The current Prelate of the Sisters of the Light. She is in love with Warren, who is a wizard with the ability of Prophecy. She is also the one who brought Richard to the Palace of Prophets.
  • Jiaan: A Blade Master from Baka Tu Mana who comes to help defend Richard on his way to Anderith.
  • Kolo: Kolo is a made up name by Richard (Lord Rahl) and Bernadine for the Author of a journal they use to help translate from ancient High D'haran.
