The heroine ran away from the marriage her stepfather wanted, fell in love with a young man in London without much but dreams. But she’s tracked down and coerced into marrying the man she ran from, who makes the hero believe she spurned him willingly. She stays with the villain only a few weeks, then runs away and lives in a monastery until he dies. She and the hero meet up in Venice by chance, or fate. He’s determined to get even, to make her his mistress in exchange for escorting her back to England. There’s a lot of wrenching conflict because of their past. He’s acquired a title now, as well as riches from those dreams of his. They work their way through the lies, back to love, but trust is very hard to come by. It’s a Very good read, well worth looking up.”
