“This is a vain book - which fails to live up to the hype and has little of value to offer.
If you are interested in the use of language then you will already see that public discourse manipulates words and meanings and you won't need Poole to tell you that.”
“Steven Poole writes an incredibly interesting piece on the use of language as propaganda. For those interested in the power of words, and the way companies and governments employ them, this is a must.”wiper wrote this review Wednesday, February 13, 2008. “An excellent polemic on how the manipulation of language by those with an agenda to legitimise their actions. With a forensic dissection of the use of terms like "war on terror" (how does one wage war on a tactic?) and "Road map" and "Climate change", as well as the weasel words used to describe acts of torture - this book is essental reading for those concerned (and everyone should be concerened) with the abuse of language for political ends. ”Mischa H wrote this review Sunday, November 4, 2007.
