Some might even say 'pulp'. The Empire Trilogy is different though. It's far better than any of his other work and I assume that's partly because it's a collaboration. I've read the trilogy several times and expect I'll do so several times again.”

Instead of Midkemai, he takes us deep into Tsurauni and tells a Tsuraunian story through the life of Mara, who becomes Lord and a player of the Game of council after her father and brother are killed. How she manages to keep her land safe and build up her prestige and power and most importantly stay alive is the story. Feist has had strong female characters in his book like Miranda, Galima but this is the first time that he has thrust a female character as the focal point of the book and does an amazing job. Looking forward to reading the next book”

The focus was not so much on the magic (as opposed to the Riftwar Saga), but rather on politics and psychology and a plot that twists delightfully up to the last moment.
Very strong and rich characterization - you get to know the characters as if they were your next-door neighbors. Hmmm, you might even know them MORE than your next-door neighbors. ;-)”
