My favorite of Feist's books. Shows the transfer from a medieval setting to renaissance period

I personally found this book disappointing. I picked up the series after the Riftwar Saga and, after a good first book, the series wasn't very good.

Meh.. not bad. It acts as nice filler to propel the story along. Not Fiest's best, but was def. good read nonetheless.

Having read the riftwar saga a long time ago, l had a bit of trouble remembering returning characters in the royal family and their history. It was still a decent read though, reminiscent of The Prince Of Blood. A kind of side story interlude used to build characters, with this book involving a Feist style wall street of all things. l do feel that extraordinary people are pretty common place in the books now and they lack a bit of the mystique and subtlety that worked so well in Magician and Lord Of The Rings. Yet its all part of a deep impending shadow of war to come with promise of Feist's biggest battle yet and you read these middle books with that expectation.

The Serpent War Saga in all its volumes is hard to put down. Well written, good characters, good dialogue...lots of swords, sorcery and subtlety.

This is my favorite Raymond Feist book. It is tied into the other stories, but stands very nicely on its own.
