Liked It“I enjoyed reading this book - number 4 of the riftwar saga- as much as any of Feist's Midkemia books. I enjoy it less now, because almost everything that happens in the book has been retconned in later stories.” see full review » see other reviews » |
Didn’t Like It“A book I remember having read but don't remember anything that happens. Classic Fiest really.” see full review » see other reviews » |

A good read that kept me interested right to the end, lot of action/fantasy/magic/battles all of which I love. I've only read these books by Feist, but will look out some more.”

My only issue is that so many years go by and the characters seem to change without being able to read about the change. Many details are left to the imagination about how Pug becomes who he is, and other characters. I wish that the story could have been a bit more fleshed out and that we could have learned more about the magic involved and the rules surrounding it instead of just "hey... there is magic and it is limitless".

“Great classic fantasy series (with a hint of sci-fi) from the 80's. Some aspects of the book and its plot and characters may seem a bit passe now, but when I read them back in the early 90's these were VERY GOOD books.”

Best parts include the history of Ashen-Shugar, the key to all magic, and Pug (Milamber) discovering the height of his powers! Oh, and Macros is a delightfully mad genius.”
