The start of a new series of books by feist this book brings in fresh characters and is a great story it also keep enough of the older characters from previous books to help balance it out a great read in my opinion

Longing for a unique fantasy, I picked up Talon of the Silver Hawk. Sadly, nothing new here...orphaned boy, the only hope to save a group of people's way of life or whatever. The blurb about Talon being molded into a weapon by the people who rescued him makes it sound different than other fantasies, but it really isn't, not underneath the surface. Just another book that reads like so many other fantasies. Nothing that stands out. One-dimensional characters with zero connection to one another...dreadful writing...why must every chapter start with "Talon sneezed" or "Talon woke" or "Talon groaned," etc...? Disappointing.

dude goes off some solitude and initiation planning on coming and a man. Which means respect, status and getting laid. Only to find his hood been pillaged and everyone, his folks, his boys and his future damsel/s murdered. Talon is simply pissed and vengance will be only consolation

This book is totally a derviative of earlier works by Feist and severly lacks any new elements worthy of mentioning. The storyline has been completely overdone by this author and only diminishes his other superior books such as the Magician and Empire series.

The plot involves an orphaned boy who grows into a resourceful, briliant young man who eventually influences local events, those of the Kingdom of the Isles and eventually (it is expected) the fate of the world. Layer on some familiar names and places from earlier stories, season with a few new scenes and cultural references and you could write an infinite series of similar books - which unfortunately seems to be exactly what Feist is attempting.

This book contains none of the literary nor literal magic of his masterpiece (The Magician) and lacked much of the imagination of found in his subsequent series.

    Overall grade: D
