For the most part this book is thought provoking and I think it should be read by Christians. Christians in this day and age have become too militant in their outlook and need to go back to the basics of the sermon on the mount. The only problem with Tolstoy and with other Christian Anarchists is that they put all evil in the human realm and do not recognize spiritual evil. To get a better and more comprehensive viewpoint I would recommend reading the Selected Writings of William Stringfellow.

This is probably the greatest book on nonviolence and passive resistence that was ever written. The collection of this author's essays and letters on that same topic [now sadly out of print but available on the used book market for a nominal price] is also highly recommended.

If you are a serious believer in social action and social justice, you should read this book. THe rhetoric is historic and yet still practical for today. A great read; seasoned philosophy; a must read for all upward minded people.

I loved this book, and found it oddly inspirational to me with it's challenge to not simply do things because it's the way they are done. It influenced my thinkking in significant ways more than most books I've read lately.

Must read. If you believe you don't have any beliefs then this is a must.
