It hurts.
It really does. It feels like someone molested my fond memories of fantasy novels.

Kind of a mix of what's good about the 'Belgariad' and what's bad about 'The Dreamers.' The fact that it is only one book instead of a series is a good thing.

Started strong, but faded toward the end.

one of my favorite books of all time... although I didn't care much for edding's other books. This one really stood out as a one time novel and not part of a series.

Typical Eddings, both in good and bad.
I read this book before I had actually read any other books by Eddings and the style of the book and the characters was delightfully new for a young reader like me who had just began to move from children's and young adult books to actual adult literature.

However, after I'd read more from Eddings, I came to realize that all his characters are always quite similar, and his stories pretty much follow the same pattern no matter what.

But I still cherish this book somehow. Maybe it's because of the sarcastic main character Althalus. Maybe.

Well, I enjoy it which usually sufices as a recommendation of a book for something I'll reread. Solid fantasy fiction, no surprises and follows the fantasy template nicely. I like it.....

Again the same set of characters that are popular in any of Eddings' novels. The story was very entertaining though and set in a very well constructed and believable world.
