A stand-alone novel for the Eddings duo, Redemption of Althalus would be great if you hadn't read anything else by them. The have proven themselves to be good fantasy authors, but fail to break out of their tried and true plot devices and stock characters. If you are looking for something great by them, just read the Belgariad and the Mallorean. They are better and basically tell the same story as Redemption.
