With plenty of characters and a sweet plot this story racks up there with some of my favorites (but not quite...). Its a must read for any fantasy freak as I imagen the next three novels of the series are.”

FIve books in all, the Belgariad became a fun adventure of a boy growing into a man as he learns about his other side as a sorcerer. In his attempt to defeat the dark lord, Garion, this series lovable main character, learns the importance of purity, humbleness, friendship, and love.
This includes all of the books in the Belgariad.”
“Awesome”

These stories are a lot of fun, but I would describe them as pedestrian. Not only because the characters spend the entire time moving from one place to another, but because the plots seem pretty pre-determined and not all that suspenseful. There is a lot of conflict, but there is never any doubt that the characters will prevail. In this way it makes climaxes not terribly satisfying because there's not much suspense. However, the characters are a lot of fun and I loved exploring this world with them--for Eddings makes full use of his fantasy world.”

Thie Belgariad consists of five books, and you won't want to set any of them down. And then there's more -- The Mallorean is the next series of five books with the same cast and more great adventures. Be sure to take a nice long breath and read something(s) else between the two pentalogies. Unless, like me, you must consume the entire author...”
