In A Little Bit Wicked, 4 gentlemen wagered one shilling apiece and a bottle of cognac that will go to the last unmarried man standing. I have enjoyed the series watching first Gideon Pearsall, Viscount Warton fall in A Little Bit Wicked, then Nigel Cavendish unwittingly stumbled into marriage in What a Woman Wants, and now in Secrets of a Proper Lady we learn that Daniel Sinclair, the American of the group, is the next. He finds himself in a déjà vu situation. Evading an arranged marriage is what brought Daniel to London and now here he is again facing a sense of duty to marry Lady Cordelia – a business arrangement between their fathers.

Lady Cordelia is determined not to marry a man that she did not choose. She pretends to be her companion -Miss Sarah Palmer - seeks out Warren Lewis - Daniel’s secretary - to glean information about her intended and is instantly intrigued with Warren. Only Warren is Daniel pretending to be Warren and decides to use this chance encounter to discover information about his intended Lady Cordelia and who becomes enamored with Miss Palmer who Lady Cordelia pretending to be Miss Palmer. Confused? Trust me before its all over so is Daniel and Lady Cordelia as they fall in love with wrong person. Or is it the right person?

I am loving this series and can’t wait for the last installment to what becomes of the last man standing. I’ve already surf the web for the last book. Victoria Alexander didn’t have it on her website, but Avon has a new site for their authors and I found the title of the last book there: The Seduction of a Proper Gentleman coming October 08 and it has been added to my Upcoming 2008 Must Read list.
