This was a fantastic story! I’m looking forward to reading all the Chanse MacLeod books! I wish there was one or two sex scenes, but the talk about sex will have to do. I was actually indifferent to this book, but rounded up to a 3. The base story was pretty engaging. That only just balanced out the choppy writing style and host of completely stereotypical characters in the book. I felt like the author was trying to make the point the the gay community is every bit as seedy as those who think the worst of it make it seem. Drugs, promiscuity, and obsession with youth are championed as normal. That was pretty off-putting. I stuck with it for 125 pps or so, skimmed for a while and picked up the story in the final two chapters. I suppose I'm still glad I read the parts I read, so 3 might just be the right rating.

This was a fantastic story! I’m looking forward to reading all the Chanse MacLeod books! I wish there was one or two sex scenes, but the talk about sex will have to do. Chanse MacLeod is an ex-cop who has moved recently to New Orleans, and is working as a PI. His 6-week old relationship with Paul is starting to raise questions. Is he a sky slut ? Chanse is approached by Mike at the gym to take up a blackmail case. But when they meet later that afternoon to discuss the details further, he finds Mike’s dead body. Venus Casanova is investigating the murder as a hate crime. I love Venus! I’m so happy to have her back! Chanse tells himself that he doesn’t investigate murders, but is questioning a ton of suspects. Everyone is gossiping about Mike, and not good things either. No one liked Mike. Proving New Orleans is a small town where everyone is in everyone else’s business. He gets himself shot at, and his apartment is broken into, where his long-time best friend Paige is shot. When he discovers who the King of Rex is, he comes to the heart of the blackmail and escort ring.
