“Engaging story of a somewhat minor player in the civil rights movement.Bound by class, by the strictures of the community of white privilege into which she was born, further hampered by family responsibilities and her own debilitating anxiety and depression, Juliette Hampton Morgan managed to do what she could, when she could, to push her city and state forward, to champion the cause of equal treatment for blacks when very few of her social group stepped in to join her. She was left virtually alone to suffer the harsh treatment inflicted by the Klan and by her own friends, at times. Shunned, ostracized, marginalized, she spoke out. ”
