One of my ABSOLUTE favorite fiction pieces about the Black experience and the power of family.

A story that made me cry. Initially I cried about the injustice, but then I cried for the triumphs and the strength of the characters who having nothing but what was on their backs and in their heads and hearts to excel. The true story of the experience of my people sold into bondage and stripped of their history. A fantastic book and book that she be read in all schools to let people know what successes made without hand outs. I feel a part of a history that the mainstream has sought to take from us and again make us feel that we only have gotten here by handouts instead of true faith and hard work.

After reading this, I totally feel like I am from the same bloodline as the main characters. In my opinion, this story is an accurate depiction of what Blacks may have gone through upon emancipation.

My mother has been a J.California Cooper fan since I could remember. This book was AWESOME I could not put it down. I was constantly reading it and was very sad that it was over.

    [Written in November 2001]

Finally finished 'The Wake of the Wind' by J. California Cooper.

One concept that touched home with me was with the sons of Mor and Lifee. They went away, bought property, returned to get their parents and take them there.

I have an account of my great-grandfather, James Jeter, doing the same for his parents. This was made apparent in his mother's, Emma Jeter, obituary.

So, this book resonates with my Ancestor's possible trials and tribulations - and gives me clues to what they might have done and why.
    Two thumbs up!

    Peace,
    "Guided by the Ancestors"
