“The story is told by Professor Aronnax, who agrees to investigate a series of attacks by a mysterious sea monster. He joins the crew of the ship Abraham Lincoln. The men encounter what they believe is the monster, but turns out to be a large, state-of-the-art submarine, the Nautilus. Aronnax and a hot tempered harpoonist, Ned Land, are imprisoned on this vessel, captained by the misanthropic recluse, Nemo. Nemo takes them around the world.
This book is a fictional book but it is very realistic and students can learn a lot about the sea from it. It could be an informational book as well. The reason why I would want it on my shelf is because I can do a ton of lessons related to geography on it and it would be a great way to learn information for the students. Also the pictures are very realistic and there are carvings and real textured things in the book that makes the book come alive. I think it would really interest the students.
I would use in the classroom during a geography lesson on water bodies like oceans and seas. It could be a great read aloud lesson because the students would be really intrigued in the story and I can have them make their own boats or any other artifact from the book. ”
