What a bore! Yes, I know it was ahead of it's time, but seriously - how many crustacians can you name in one paragraph? I would have renamed it "20,000 Useless Descriptive Words of the Sea"

This book was not very good. I thought it was too slow, and there was not enough action. It got really boring.

Jules Verne's exciting science fiction adventure story of a submarine and its captain fighting a personal war and battling a giant squid in the ocean depths.

I enjoyed the writing style for a while, and the premise is enjoyable. But there was just too much dwelling on the details of marine life and such. Being so, I would be much more likely to recommend it to someone who is very much into biology. I don't think the average reader would enjoy it that much.

I admit, I don't always love all the "classics", but this one is great. It is fascinating to see how accurate this account of life, murder, and mystery on a submarine was, even though it was written in the 1800's. Captain Nemo is one psycho dude!
