“Very enjoyable book. Funny and terrible at the same time. It motivate me to know something else about Burma and the Karen tribes. I recommend it.”

Yes | No“Amy Tan's work is formulaic, so when I picked her latest up, I expected the formula -- not what I got at all. It took me a while to warm up to the characters, who end up in this tour-gone-horribly-wrong scenario in Myanmar/Burma.
Once it got going, it was enjoyable enough, but I missed the dose of Chinese culture that fixes my craving (the whole point of picking up an Amy Tan in the first place.)
The issues the novel raises are good ones, but I miss the formula (is that sad?).”
