“Not technically reading it now, I just dip in it from time to time. If you love fantasy storytelling (both reading and writing) as I do, this is a great reference book. It has detailed entries on an enormous range of mythical creatures, cryptozoological creatures, folkloric creatures and mystical interpretations of actual known animals. ”

This collection is about the folklore and history surrounding many mythical beasts. From dryads to banshees, puck to Chupacabra, and Mothman to satyrs are discussed. It’s entertaining, but has inaccuracies. For example, instead of Richard Gere starring in the film The Mothman Prophecies, it lists Kevin Costner. There is a lot left out as well, sometimes glaring gaps that are a bit disappointing. However, the majority of it is fascinating. It’s a fairly big task to make such a compendium. It’s worth it for the basic reference and I know I learned a few new things.”
