I think you might find it worth a second look, maybe from the library. I tend to lean y toward the feminist side myself and did not feel offended by Sax's discussion about learning differences in boys and girl, not one sex being any more capable then another just that effective learning styles differ. For example: The "This is your brain on drugs"(fried egg scenario) anti-drug campaign that Nancy Reagan headed back in the day, was quite successful for girls but failed miserably and actually saw a marked increase in drug use by boys, who thought the whole idea quite cool. I found it much less sexist then Bryson's Bringing up Boys.

I had come across "Why Gender Matters," but didn't read it as (from a very brief perusal) it seemed to be about indoctrination of gender stereotypes. Was my quick assessment of it wrong?

    Raising Cain

Having only one brother who is considerably younger, I always found it hard to understand his motivations through elementary and high school. This book helped put some of his actions in perspective. There certainly are different societal pressures for our youth even when we try to even the playing field.
