Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff and It’s All Small Stuff by Richard Carlson
I love this book. It is small enough to carry around with you, great to leave on your bedside table, and has found a special place on my desk for quick reference. It has so many great ideas for ways to make yourself a happier person. It may not be the way to inner peace but it will definitely make you smile more and should keep the stress level down. I give it a definite 5 stars and even if it does sound cheesy at times … well cheesy is good.

It's probably considered pretty light-weight as far as inspiration is concerned but I actually keep it handy to pick up and read just a single "chapter" once in awhile. I open the book at random and usually find a gem or two to try to keep in mind while dealing with other people and managing my own sanity in stressful situations. (I am responsible for 30 employees, a significant budget and public service.) Like today, I picked the book up while getting ready for work. I read "Life is Just a Test" and ended up relating it to an issue I'd had the day before and then sharing the concept with a co-worker this morning about a whole different issue. We had a smile together and that's just great!”

Great! I love this book. If your desire is to be peacefull happier and less frustrated with people, circumstances and just stuff in general, then you should read this book right away. It will give you a great perspective and save you a lot of stress. It has made a difference for me already.

Overall, I think this is a good book. It offers good advice for ways to reduce stress in our lives and to help us see that indeed, "it is all small stuff" because we often, to resort to a cliché, "make mountains out of mole hills".

I think that some of the strategies offered are so simple they should be obvious, but I suppose the point of writing a book for an audience of overly stressed people in an overly stressed world is that often things that should be obvious really aren't.

As I was reading the book, I did find that the more I got into the book, the more repetitive I thought it got. This is a very easy read with short chapters of typically no more than 1 - 2 pages each. And while those short chapters are probably great for our modern world where people seem to have the attention span of a nanosecond some days (Okay, that's a slight exaggeration on my part.), I think it's the short chapters that began to make it seem repetitive.

Carlson would mention a concept such as "turn your melodrama into a mellow-drama" in one chapter and then he would revisit that concept a couple of chapters later. Some concepts he revisited 3-4 times within the book. And while each chapter does focus on a specific strategy, I found myself withing that he had at least taken each strategy that related to a concept and grouped the chapters dealing with those particular strategy closer together in the book. Even better would perhaps have been combining some of the chapters as they addressed the same concept (i.e Each strategy for turning your melodrama into a mellow-drama could have been included in one chapter instead of three or four chapters.)

I liked this book. The chapters are short. I read a chapter a day before I left for work.I guess thats the best way of reading it ( digesting all the good suggestions).

I've read a few of these books...I always enjoy them, feel enlightened, think I need to loosen up a bit. I bought this as a gift a few times for people I felt needed to loosen up a bit, as well.

Good advice, but not easy to remember when you are "sweating the small stuff"

An easy to digest instruction manual for how to not get stressed out. Written in short vignettes that can be slowly savored and applied to daily life. Can change your outlook and help you accentuate the positive. This is a book that my husband and I have given to others who seemed like they were going through stressful times. A gem of a book, and a perfect gift.
