Sarris is a great writer and film scholar, his criticism is historically astute, searching and fair-minded, and he remains a lasting influence on film critics and scholars since this book came out in the late 60's. It's a pleasure just to read his words, the easy and knowing prose is brilliant, both as a film lover and writer.
