As a great lover of Pern, I was a little wary of this novel because of the [something like] fifteen-year hiatus between books and its timeframe of the end of Threadfall. I wasn't sure I'd like a Threadless Pern--a place where the beloved dragons might become obselete. To say the least, I was pleasantly surprised. McCaffrey strives to make Pern believable as always with her logical explanations, and she handles the question of what direction society should take with this new future. I glowed...
