Didn’t Like It

I hated this book. I don't care if it is about sticking it to the man. I don't really remember a lot, because it has been so long, but the ending was terrible.

Not as good as The Nanny Diaries, but I liked it.

I guess the main character is supposed to represent every woman (or at least every 20-something, college-educated, white woman living in urban America) so she doesn't even get a name in the book and is referred to only as 'Girl' throughout. Maybe her lack of name is why I didn't really care about her? Though I suspect she was not the kind of character I'd care about even if she did have a name. Ho-hum.

I'm definitely in the minority here, but I liked it, quite alot! I found it much more substantial that the usual chick lit....heavens, I read "Remember Me" by Sophie Kinsella recently, and what predictable fluff. This is much better - must be the satire.

I am so sad I hated this book so much! Though, to be fair, I didn’t finish it. It is entirely possible Citizen Girl becomes infinitely better after the first 100 pages. But I doubt it.

There is nothing redeeming about our main character, “Girl” – the “bad guys” are so overdone they go from bad to ridiculous to annoyingly bad. Or something like that. I loved the Nanny Diaries – it was the perfect balance of great novel and social commentary. Citizen Girl was just social commentary masquerading as a novel. Characters sucked, writing was confusing and too wordy AND pretentious.

That being said, as a recent grad looking for a job, this book did a WONDERFUL job depressing me.

So bad! I thought it would be fun because I liked the Nanny Diaries, but it wasn't nearly as funny... boring to the point of confusing, even.

God what a disappointment to Kraus and McLaughlin's hit "The Nanny Diaries." This book was poorly written with a sub-par plot and boring characters, save your time, read another book.
