After being somewhat disappointed with "Armageddon's Children," I decided to go back to where it all started for Brooks, and found the "Sword of Shannara" much more to my liking. Characters were well developed and the pacing was excellent. The battle sequences were descriptive and interesting...

It's a Shannarra book from Terry Brooks, what should you expect? Obvious and blatant Tolkien rip-off but if you really love the genera then it is possible to overcome your sense of shame and consume this off-brand confection with a facsimile of the delight you had when reading the original.

I've read it when i was quite young ( in 8th grade) and I can still remember some of the scenes from it, that's how very well written it was. And what I can remember quite dark in the second book... I just simply love Terry Brooks books.

This is such a Lord of the Rings knockoff... fortunately I loved the Lord of the Rings. The story has the exact same feel, which is a good thing, and the characters are all likable. This is part of an ongoing series of stories in the Shannara world, but it's the only one i've read and it reads as a stand alone story so that's a plus. I liked it enough to where I look forward to eventually move on to the next book.

My very first fantasy, before LOTR and Thomas Covenant. Pity I never got to read the second and third books of the SoS trilogy.

More accessible than Tolkien. Not quite as epic or original (Brooks takes a lot of cues from Tolkien), but still great. Fresh and fun to read. Characterization is very good.

It is a good book for those with a military or fantasy mind.

Sort of hard to get into, not to mention the microscopic print, but once you get far enough, it gets better. I have picked this book up several times, then forgot about it, but i am determined to get through this time. :)
