Once more the wizard has mucked it up and Ben has to get back his medallion so he can be king of Landover.

This is my favorite book in the series. I just loved the interplay between Earth and Landover. Experiencing the stark differences between the two worlds demonstrated what makes Landover so special. Adding the two new antagonists the bottle demon and Michael Ard Rhi made for some interesting battles.

I have read many people complain about the Landover series as being simple and boring. Given the characters, the seemingly small kingdom of Landover, and the sometimes childish nature of the stories, the kingdom of Landover can be viewed as being simple. However, I think the child inside of the reader is what the story appeals to the most. Indeed, the themes not only appeal to childish fantasies, but it is also written so that a child can digest and enjoy the stories. The other comment I often see is that the books are too predictable, too cliché. That may be true, but I enjoyed the themes in the other books for a reason, and I don’t mind experiencing them again. I am not reading the series just for originality; I am also reading them because I have become invested in the characters and in the kingdom of Landover.

Can’t wait to see what happens next! Like I said, this is my favorite of the series so far. I feel like Terry Brooks has much more in store for Ben, Questor, Abernathy, Willow, the kobolds Bunion and Parsnip, and everyone else within Landover, perhaps other worlds too ;-)

After reading The Black Unicorn, I was hoping for a little more excitement, and although I didn't enjoy waiting for the little bursts of it, I did like them very much when they came. Overall, another great book for the series, a little slow at times, but the story was very interesting with the real world added in.

I absolutely LOVED this series. It was the first fantasy series I had ever read. I was hooked on this genre after these books!

Quick and light comedy for someone who appreciates magic and fantasy but doesn't want the standard medieval variety.
