Didn’t Like It“I got this trilogy because I already had the excellent Liveships trilogy, and was sadly disappointed. Much as one tries to identify with the main character, his inability to accept his fate, and then his attempts to escape it by running away, means that one despises him. I did buy and read the...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“An odd book, I liked it but.... It was dark and the first 100 pages just completely dragged. I did not voraciously go through this one like her other stories. I would probably read the next in the series. But I am not dying to find what went on.”

I did buy and read the other two books though, as I needed to know how it all ended .....”

About 1/4 way through it started to pick up and soon it was hard to put down. Good book, looking forward the 2nd book.”

I understand that Robin Hobb was gearing up for a trilogy but the first 200 pages had very little action save from something that could only be compared to a "movie inspired acid trip". I was not amused given that she even bored me with that.”

The setting is completely new, which I find refreshing. The "hero," as in the previous series, seems to be constantly running into circumstances or accidentally placing himself in positions of least success, even when his decisions seem reasonable or moral. The setting & overarching plot is intriguing. If you liked her other series, you should appreciate this one. If you haven't read Hobb before, try to read the series as a whole before deciding everything is hopeless ;-)”

I'm hoping the next book in this series is also on CD I enjoyed it so much. ”
