So rich and artfully done that i can't believe it is not true. How can someone make up something this good?

If you can get past the first 80 pages it really is an exciting story of an young monk who learns, about life through experience. I am a fan of Stephen Lawhead. and if you like his writing you will enjoy this book

OMG the best book ever!! It is about a monk way back in 12th or 13th century, he lives in Scotland, and a group of them want to take their beautiful handwritten Bible to the new king in Byzantium, which was the capital of the world at the time. They have never left Scotland and are not at all prepared for everything they run into on their travels. It is funny, exciting, interesting, with just a little (unfortunately) romance. Especially anyone who has travelled overseas will like it.

I had a really hard time getting into this book. I thought, "Oh, not another book about religion and a monk." But once the journey began, I could not put it down! I had no idea I would be taken to such scary, wonderful and intriguing places. I did actually feel like I was there at times, at times feeling trapped and at other times feeling completely awed. What a great read! The ending was not what I predicted or wanted, but it will wonderful nonetheless.

This is the book that moved me to read fiction. I am a pastor and so read literally thousands and thousands of pasges of books for my vocation. Never once did I read for enjoyment. I would gold plate this book if I could -- it adresses the struggle of true Christian faith so very well. It is adventuresome, witty, moving, and so much more. If you desire a story that cleaves the heart of the idealism of religion and its reality as found in a forgiving God -- this is it.

Super book. Hard to put down. The main character, a monk, travels all over Europe and the Middle East and Constantinople with Vikings. Cool story, I wish he did another one like it.
