Thought this was a promising start to a new series. I definitely liked it better than War of the Flowers. Some of this will seem kind of familiar to readers of the Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series - faerie people looking for a rematch against humanity, and this time it looks hopeless. The style is also pretty similar, several characters in different places doing their own thing, coming together. I wonder if Tad Williams hasn't already used up most of his creativity. Didn’t Like It

This isn't so much a fantasy as a really bad feudal-whodunit narrative. The plot is lame! The characters are as shallow as Sweet Valley High. And, yes, it's so epic you can blaze through 600 pages and you won't miss a thing. SPOILER: royal children inherit kingdom because someone murdered their older brother, lotsa blah in between and they eventually figure out who did it. Duh! WASTE. OF. TIME. Burn it!!!
