Movie vs. Book: I read the book way before seeing the movie. Then recently I saw the movie and enjoyed it too. Obviously there are challenges in adapting PKD to the screen, but I thought they did a pretty good job. The book makes more sense from a narrative standpoint, but the movie does a great job of bringing the characters to life in a more contemporary setting. While re-reading the book I noticed how dated the writing seems now (the early 70's "groovy" aesthetic now seems rather quaint). Both book and movie are interesting pieces of art by themselves. Thoughts?

I love a good laugh as much as any Shelfarian, so I started a Philip K Dick group to deal with this s**t. Sign up, and get chit-chatting. Tell friends.

This tragic novel will make you want to steer clear off illegal drugs without falling into the trap of being overly sentimental. It's hard to believe that Philip Dick wrote this book years before I was even born. He sounds like someone who could be from our generation.
