When Atkinson takes a step back and talks about the themes of north africa, the emergence of the American army, politics of the allies, and battle trends, this is a fascinating book. Unfortunately it gets a bit tedious describing battle to battle, I felt sometimes overloaded with names and places that I would only hear once. If you don't know much about north africa, like I didn't, then it's a great book to get; a very interesting topic by a skilled author.
